Journalist Backed Chelsea to Make £35m Bid For Serie A’s Defensive Rock

CHELSEA are plotting a last-minute bid for Serie A giants Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas, according to the respected Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.

Premier League champions are in need of defensive reinforcements following the departure of John Terry and Greek international star alongside with Leonardo Bonucci, and Kalidou Koulibaly has been on top of Antonio Conte’s wishlist.
Italian reporter Emanuele Giulianelli Antonio Conte’s side are poised to make a late move for 26-year-old centre-back.

The Greece international is reportedly closing on a switch to Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg.
“Manolas and Zenit are negotiating over the final details, but Chelsea are ready to make a last minute bid to overtake the Russians,” Giulianelli told website Tribal Football.
“Today, Chelsea are expected to submit to Roma the last call, the last bid of €40million [£35m].
“While Zenit’s offer is about €30m [£26m] – to take the player.”
However, Premier League champions planning to make a late bid for Greek defender and hijack Russians move.

However, the Russian side are reportedly offering higher wages than Chelsea, and it gives them an advantage in the transfer race, although Chelsea can offer Greek star a strong team that will be capable of fighting for all possible trophies next season.
“The problem is that Zenit are offering a better contract to the player,” Giulianelli added.
Manolas this term has made 45 appearances for Roma helping them to finish the season in the second place.
His current deal with Italian giants set to expire in 2019 and Roma could try and cash in on their star player.
