Insider: Champions League Giants Targeting £30m Arsenal Star

Bayern Munich are ready to make a move for Arsenal summer signing Granit Xhaka, according to Bavarians former manager Ottmar Hitzfeld.

The Swiss international joined the Emirates club from Borussia Monchengladbach for £30 million last summer, but he has failed to live up to the hype after sensational form in Bundesliga.

And ex-Switzerland coach, Hitzfeld, believes the Germany champions could line up Xhaka to replace veteran midfielder Xabi Alonso, who announced that he would retire at the end of the season.

The 68-year-old told Basler Zeitung: “Bayern Munich certainly has Xhaka on their radar,”

“Xhaka is always a topic for current top clubs, and his development is still ongoing.”

Xhaka has made a rising reputation as a card-collector. He has started 16 Premier League games since his switch but has seen two red cards in his brief career at the Emirates Stadium. Elsewhere, the 24-year-old has scored one goal, creating 16 chances and one assist, he has also completed 1133 passes with a pass accuracy of 89%, of which 74% were forward passes.

Xhaka made 108 Bundesliga appearances for Monchengladbach between 2012 and 2016, netting six times, having previously played for Swiss Super League side Basel.

Hitzfeld worked with Arsenal star with Switzerland between 2011 and 2014, with the national team reaching the 2014 World Cup during the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s spell as head coach.
