Liverpool hero Stan Collymore believes that Alexis Sanchez has been been letting his clubs down when things get tough and has shown why Barcelona let him go so easily in 2014.

The Chilean international cancelled out Craig Dawson’s opener in the Gunners’ clash at West Brom on Sunday, but then suffered a nasty ankle injury as Arsenal’s afternoon unravelled, slumping to a woeful 3-1 defeat.

And Collymore, however, has questioned if the €76m-rated attacker mentality really makes him as good a player as many perceive him to be.

The former Liverpool star told Boyle Sports:
“Alexis doesn’t get out of this unscathed.

“I always wondered how a hard-working, technically brilliant goalscorer was let go by Barcelona. I can now see why.

“When things don’t go his way, he throws his arms in the air and is more than happy for others to carry the can.

“His performance, despite scoring, was that of a man who looks happy to let the spotlight shine on Wenger rather than helping his team to win a game.

“I honestly was undecided as to whether Alexis was a great pro getting frustrated or a bit of a snake just doing enough for himself but letting his manager down. I’m leaning towards the latter.

“And that may be the reason Barca let him go. Not as good a dressing room influence as many think.”

Ex-England international Collymore has had a hand in 66 goals during his entire career in Premier League, while Sanchez has already been directly involved in 70 goals in England’s top flight since moving from La Liga giants.
